We are an organization powered by faith and volunteers. Our volunteers are our hands and hearts to embrace and serve people who have lost so much. Your skills, knowledge, and experience can be put to work to make a difference. So let’s put you to work!

Become a Volunteer

As a Social Media Advocate for Be a Light Mission Service Center Inc, you will play a crucial role in spreading awareness about the challenges surrounding homelessness and advocating for solutions. Your primary responsibility will be to create and share compelling social media content to engage our online community and mobilize supporters to take action. 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver content for social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) to highlight the plight of people impacted by homelessness and efforts to help.
  • Share news, articles, and graphics related to our mission to educate and inform followers.
  • Define methods (e.g., captions, hashtags) to maximize the reach and impact of our posts.
  • Engage with comments, messages, and interactions from our audience to foster meaningful conversations.
  • Participate in social media campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness and drive action.

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and trends.

  • Willingness to learn about homelessness and our organization’s mission.

As an Outreach Volunteer, you will help identify and coordinate (in conjunction with staff) outreach events and activities aimed at bringing much needed services and support to our neighbors.   

Position Functions:  

  • Perform wellness checks delivering meals and support. 
  • Attend fairs, community events to represent Be a Light Mission Service Center, Inc and the services we offer. 
  • Pickup and deliver donated items. 

 

Location and Time Commitment: Our service area is West Pasco, FL with goals to expand to other needed areas. Time commitment and location is flexible and dependent upon outreach efforts and events.  

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.  
  • Must show empathy and a desire to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. We have a “no judgement, just grace” culture. 
  • Light physical demands with transporting, setting up and taking down outreach materials, banners, tables, booths and more.  
  • Must be able to maintain strict standards of confidentiality, must have access to a computer, email, internet and phone, and reliable transportation.  

 

Volunteer Benefits: Volunteers get to make an impact on the community and those who may be affected by homelessness. Additionally, volunteers get practical experience with networking, communication skills, marketing and build stronger partnerships. 

 

Accepting Applications for Our Board 

We are expanding our board to help meet the needs of the ever-growing number of people facing homelessness and ensure we have adequate resources to advance our mission. 

With the expansion, there are opportunities for people with expertise in the following areas:  

  • Financial Management or Accounting  
  • Marketing  
  • Law or Law Enforcement 
  • Fundraising (individual and corporate donors/partners)  
  • Health Care (recovery, mental health)  

 

Why become a volunteer Board member at Be a Light Mission Service Center Inc.?  You have the desired expertise, are ready to expand your Board experience by sharing your talents, and are deeply concerned about the following:  

  • The resources needed to support an increasing homeless population is lacking.  
  • Homelessness as a public health safety issue. 
  • The housing waiting list has doubled but no shovel ready projects to add more affordable housing.  
  • More and more people are experiencing barriers to accessing basic needs, such as food, hygiene, and medical care.  
  • People experiencing homelessness are 3-4x more likely to die a premature death.  
  • People living in camps are discharged from hospitals after major surgery or illness without transitional care or ability to pay for needed medication.  
  • Trespassing laws are cruel and punitive when people have nowhere to go to plug up a phone, rest from the weather, or find safety.  
  • Without access to food and medication, people resort to illegal means leading to more crime.  

 

We have a problem and may very well have a bigger problem in the future if we don’t do something. By becoming an active board member, you become part of the solution.
